Key Strategic Organisations
Grants Direct at Richmond Council for Voluntary Service (RCVS) supported the appointment of 6 Key Strategic Organisations during 2006/07 and funded 1 designate Key Strategic Organisations during 2006/07.
What is a Key Strategic Organisation?
RCVS has defined a Key Strategic Organisation as being one which, with appropriate financial support, can:
- Command the support of the public and relevant voluntary and community organisations for acting as the lead voluntary or community agency in its area of work.
A Key Strategic Organisation that meets this criteria, can then utilise its management capacity to:
- provide support to other organisations working in the same field and effectively represent their views, particularly to local statutory bodies
- develop the ability to work in partnership with public bodies and provide services designed to complement, enhance or add value to statutory sector provision
- attract additional external funding in support of its work
- achieve continuous improvement in the management and delivery of its services
- articulate the needs of and provide services to diverse communities in a variety of locations
- offer best value in terms of the efficiency, effectiveness and economy of its services

The aims of Age Concern Richmond upon Thames are to improve the quality of life of older people in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames and to enhance their status and influence.
Its objectives are
To promote the rights and needs of older people.
To provide services which appropriately meet the needs of older people.
To research new needs and investigate innovative ways of meeting them.
To ensure that the needs of older people are included in joint planning
with statutory and other voluntary bodies. |

Providing a one-stop-shop for support, information and guidance to organisations, groups and individuals with the overall vision of enhancing the long-term sustainability of the environment and civic pride sector.
Specific aims:
1.To improve the access to environmental activities.
To provide a one-stop shop for environmental information in the London Borough of Richmond-upon-Thames. 2.To improve capacity of the local environmental groups.
To support the borough's groups, organisations and individuals working in the environmental voluntary sector. 3.To enable cross sector activity (such as youth and health) to benefit the environment.
To facilitate local environmental groups, organisations and individuals to work in partnership to build a more sustainable sector.
4.To improve continuously the service delivery of REN.
To receive feedback and to tailor and adapt the service to suit the needs of the users. |

CORLD:
To understand the needs and aspirations of people with learning disabilities and to find effective ways of supporting them to express their views in order to influence the future direction and policy of the opportunities available to all people with learning disabilities locally.
Richmond Homes for Life:
Provide long term residential provision for adults with learning disabilities living in the Richmond Borough
Provide supported activities where small groups of people are supported by staff to experience an overnight stay away from the family home.
Offer individual and general support and information.
Richmond MENCAP:
Support Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities and their family carers.
Provide respite care and other practical services to meet needs.
Represent their interests and campaign on their behalf.

Richmond Carers Centre:
Richmond Carers Centre is a local charity that is affiliated to Princess Royal Trust for Carers and exists to make life easier for Carers. We offer free and confidential information, support and advice to any Carer living in the borough, to help improve their quality of life and to prevent them from reaching crisis point. Other services include: support groups for adults and young Carers, complementary therapies and counselling, regular social activities and leisure events, a breaks service for Young Carers and Black and Minority Ethnic Carers, drop in service and helpline.Our Mission

Richmond upon Thames Crossroads Caring for Carers:
Richmond upon Thames Crossroads is a local charity set up in 1987 and affiliated to the Crossroads Association. Its purpose is to provide practical and emotional support in the form of respite breaks to Carers who are responsible for caring for adults including older people and children who have a physical/sensory disability or who are chronically ill. Services include: home based respite breaks, Café for people affected by dementia, two Saturday Clubs for Children with Special Needs and Macmillan/Crossroads Palliative Care Service.Our Mission
To promote, offer, support and deliver high quality services for Carers and people with care needs within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. |
